Prof. Youssef Courbage
Researcher in demography, and its interaction with socio-economic development and politics, mainly concerned with the Arab world, Palestine in particular, and Muslim populations, old and new minorities in the world, and the socio-economic implications and population dynamics policies. Starting in 1990 he has been appointed as director of research at the National Institute for Demographic Studies in Paris. Between 2003 and 2005 he directed the Department of Contemporary Studies at the French Institute of the Near East in Beirut (IFPO). He also holds the position of extraordinary professor at the University of Cape Town (South Africa) and associate researcher with the Iraqi center of Research in Paris.
He studied Demography and Urbanism at Sorbonne and Dauphine Universities in Paris He has published nearly 500 books, chapters in books, articles, etc. He co-authored with Emmanuel Todd the well-known book “A Convergence of Civilizations -The Transformation of Muslim Societies around the World” which was translated into 11 languages.
